The Benefits of Fishing On An Inflatable Paddle Board
Paddleboards are incredibly versatile, they can be used for so many different activities, so why not fishing? On a fishing paddle board, you can be high up, making it easier to see fish.
You are smaller than a boat and can get into hard to reach fishing spots and you can be almost silent as you sneak towards fish.
There are paddle boards specifically for fishing that are wide and extremely stable. You don’t have to worry about getting flipped over when reeling in a big one.
Paddleboards made for fishing also have fishing rod holders, coolers, seats, and other accessories.
You don’t need a lot of space to store or transport them either since the inflatable paddle boards can be folded up and placed in a storage bag.
They are extremely durable meaning you don’t have to worry about dinging or scratching them on the occasional rock you may bump into or if you hit bottom. You also don’t have to license and register a paddle board saving you money every year.
The large flat deck makes it easier to maneuver around on the board, and you can fish from all four sides with ease, unlike the similar kayak which limits movement on the vessel.
It can also be used for other common paddle board activities which makes them suitable for all ages, you can take your board out for fishing, go for a leisurely paddle, or even do some yoga if you want.

It’s a little more narrow than other fishing paddle boards, but it has the length to give it stability.
The weight capacity is up to 400lbs. It has a 3 fin system with 2 stabilizer (side bite) fins and a removable center fin.
There is a 6 D-link bungee system on the nose as well as a 4 D-link bungee system on the tail. There are also 4 D-links on the sides.
The board comes with a soft cooler that uses velcro clips to attach to the D-links, and can hold up to 10 cans (12oz) with room for ice.
This fishing paddle board is a little less like a fishing board in shape and more like a touring board.
If you are planning on going to a spot that is further away or maybe doing more distance paddling than fishing this board is perfect.

Hippocamp is made with military-grade dual-layered PVC with a high-density drop-stitch core making it durable and rigid.
Unlike any of the boards on this list, there is a carbon fiber stringer on the bottom and top, making it even more rigid and more like a hard paddle board.
The footpad is a dual-layered fingerprint texture IXPE making it comfortable and giving a better grip than most.
There is a fishing rod mount near the nose and 2 more mounts on the sides.
Included with this board is an impressive amount of accessories, as usual, you get the board, a pump with pressure gauge, and a very nice backpack/storage bag with wheels.
You also get a kayak seat, a small cooler, a paddle with another paddle attachment to turn it into a kayak paddle, 2 fishing rod holders that connect to the fishing rod mounts, and a waterproof fanny pack for your phone and keys.
The SBBC Hippocamp Fishing ISUP is a fantastic purchase not only because of all the added accessories but the board is made of some high-quality materials.
The extra thought put into the board shows with things like the carbon fiber stringer, and the softer more comfortable footpad.

This is the true fishing ISUP, measuring 12 feet 6 inches long, 40 inches wide, and 6 inches thick.
The weight capacity is 350lbs. It has a 3 removable fin set up.
There is a 4 D-link bungee system on the nose, 4 D-links down each side, and 2 D-links on the tail. The package includes a multi-purpose storage box that fits on the nose and has two fishing rod holders built into it.
The nose is pointed making it easier to glide through the water, the tail is a wide swallow tail design creating one of the most stable boards out there.
The tail has a removable electric motor mount which can take up to a 45 lbs motor with a 55 lbs thrust like the Newport Vessels Kayak Series (click to view on Amazon).
The fishing paddle board is made of 1000 denier, with reinforced drop stitch, and a quadruple overlap seam.
The EVA footpad is large and covers much of the deck. There is a paddle pocket directly below the nose bungee system to keep your paddle secure when fighting that fish.
There is a handle on the nose, middle, and both sides of the swallowtail for easy transportation and a 36-inch ruler onto the deck of the board.
You can reel in the fish, and just flop it down on the deck to see how long it is.
You get some cool stuff with this fishing paddle board. It comes with a standard double action pump with a pressure gauge, repair kit, and backpack/storage bag.
You also get a kayak paddle, a storage bag with 2 fishing rod holders built it, an electric motor mount, and maybe the coolest part, a swivel seat that mounts right onto the board. It attaches to the D-links, with 2 fishing rod mounts on it, and weighs only 15 lbs.
What I like about the Sea Eagle Fishing ISUP is it can be a paddle board that could be fun for just hanging out at the lake, or it can be a specialized fishing vessel.
The added swivel seat is a neat feature and usually something you only see on boats or kayaks.
I love the electric motor mount as well because being able to use a trolling motor is not something people usually can do on a paddle board.
If you are a fishing advocate and want to fish on lakes, rivers, or oceans, you’re going to love this board.

The Rackham Aero by BOTE is a fishing specific inflatable paddle board. It’s very stable and comes with accessory mounts you can attach a bucket stand with fishing pole holders or a rack stand to.
The total length of the ISUP is 12 feet 4 inches. The width is perfect for fishing at 38 inches and the thickness is 7 inches.
The total weight capacity is 400 lbs.
There are two air chambers on this monster fishing ISUP. One on the nose and one on the tail. One chamber inflates the body of the board and the other inflates the sides which are built in sponsons that add more stability and weight capacity to the board.
There are 4 mounts on the main part that are used to attach BOTE’s own accessories, the tackle rac, and the bucket rac.
The tackle rac (click to view on Amazon) attaches to two of the mounts. It’s basically a long handle that stands 35 inches tall you can grab onto to help you balance.
It also has two fishing pole mounts and pegs you can hang gear on.
The cooler and stand doubles as a seat and there are 4 fishing pole holders around the stand.
Both the tackle and bucket rac is made with marine grade aluminum. They make the entire stand up paddle board fishing experience a little easier and nicer.
Even the accessories linked to above are not included with the BOTE it does come with all of the necessities.
There’s a nice storage bag/backpack, a dual action hand pump with built in pressure gauge, a paddle, a repair kit, and a paddle sheath.
There’s a 6 D-link bungee storage system on the nose and a 4 D-link bungee system on the tail.
The board is on the heavy side weighing 45 lbs. There are three fins, 2 side bites, and a removable center fin.
There is also a Power-Pole Micro mount on the tail. A power pole is a battery driven anchor you can use while fishing.
The BOTE Rackham Aero ISUP is a fantastic choice for a fishing paddle board. It has all the accessory mounts you could want and it’s super stable with sponsons and a very wide body.

The Nixy Newport inflatable paddle board is technically an all-around board but it’s extra wide which makes it perfect for fishing.
The board length is 10 feet 6 inches long, 33 inches wide, and 6 inches thick. The weight capacity is 300 lbs.
The shape is for cruising and there are 3 removable fins on the tail which makes it easier for the board to track straight in the water.
One unique thing about the Nixy is the 6 D-link bungee storage on the tail instead of the nose. On the nose, there is just a small 4 D-link bungee storage.
There are enough D-links to attach a chair if you prefer to fish kayak style.
Included with the fishing ISUP is a paddle, a large storage bag with wheels, a repair kid, a coil ankle leash, and a triple action hand pump which is one of the best on the market today.
The NIXY Newport ISUP isn’t the biggest ISUP in this review and it doesn’t come with the most fancy accessories but it’s a fantastic wide all around option that can be used for more than just fishing.
If you already know how to paddle board or have good balance this is going to be plenty stable for fishing. Because of the smaller size, it’s going to be easier to paddle around so you can get to where you’re going much faster.
- Triple-Action Hand Pump Included
- 3 Removable Fins
- Easy To Maneuver
- Not Super Stable
- No Fishing Accessory Mounts
The DAMA ISUP is 10 feet 6 inches long and 32 inches wide with a 6 inch thickness. It has a weight capacity of 330 lbs and is a great all around paddle board that is wide enough to fish on.
The EVA foam footpad covers most of the deck for extra grip and there is 4 D-link bungee storage on both the nose and the tail.
There are also D-links along the sides you can use to secure a seat or cooler if you want.
There is a 3 fin set up with one long removable center fin and 2 non-removable side fins.
Included with the ISUP is a large storage bag/backpack, a paddle that also doubles as a kayak paddle, an ankle coil leash, a dual action hand pump with built in pressure gauge, a 5L dry bag, a clear waterproof phone bag, and a small waste fanny pack.
With all the accessories packed away the entire set up is pretty heavy but the ISUP doesn’t really weigh that much. It’s only 20 lbs which makes it easy to hike with and carry across land.
The DAMA ISUP is both an excellent fishing ISUP and a great all-around board you can take anywhere.
Most people do more than just fish on their paddle boards and with the DAMA you can cruise around a lake, do some yoga, and even try some ocean paddle boarding.

- 3 Removable Fins
- Easy To Maneuver
- Not Super Stable

The ISLE Pioneer is another all-around inflatable paddle board that, because of its width, can easily be used for fishing.
It’s one of the widest standard ISUPs in this review measuring 10 feet 6 inches long, 34 inches wide, and 6 inches thick.
It has a weight capacity of 286 lbs.
Besides the dual layered PVC, the construction and shape of this fishing paddle board is pretty simple. It has a round nose and a flat tail. The extra width is what gives it extra stability for fishing.
There’s a 3 fin set up on the tail. Two non-removable side bites and a long removable center fin.
The EVA foam footpad is pretty large and it covers much of the deck including the tail.
There’s a 6 D-link bungee storage system on the nose and a 4 D-link bungee storage system on the tail. It’s perfect for packing all of the necessary fishing gear for a day on the lake.
There are also two velcro straps on one side that are there to hold your paddle in place. This is a small detail that’s super fishing friendly since you always need a place to store the paddle while you’re casting and reeling.

Included with the ISLE fishing ISUP is a paddle, a storage bag/backpack, a dual action hand pump with built in pressure gauge, and a coil ankle leash.
The ISLE Pioneer ISUP is a fantastic choice for both fishermen and everyday paddlers. It’s super stable for beginners and wide enough to stand and fish on.
The extra storage including the paddle straps makes it great for holding fishing gear. The dual layered PVC adds strength and durability to the board for shallow rivers and tree filled lakes. Just keep an eye on the long center fin while you fish.

My Recommendation For Best Fishing Paddle Board
Good – BOTE Rackham Aero ISUP
The BOTE fishing paddle board has a lot of awesome features that make it a good choice for fishermen.
It’s super wide and has sponsons for extra stability.
There are accessory mounts included on the board that are ready to go if you decide to get the tackle or bucket rac later on.
The only downside to this ISUP is it doesn’t come with the accessories that make it fantastic for fishing and it’s very heavy.
Better – SBBC Hippocamp Fishing ISUP
I love this fishing paddle board and if I could have two best boards in this review then this would be one of them.
What I love about it are all the small details that are put into it giving a slight edge over other boards.
They added a carbon fiber stringer to make it extra rigid which I’ve never seen on an inflatable paddle board.
The footpad is designed for comfort which is important because you may end up standing on it for hours.
They include a small cooler, a seat, 2 fishing rod mounts, and a kayak paddle which are all good options to have when it comes to fishing.
The fishing padddle board itself could be used for any other paddle board activities and might even be better than some of the touring boards out there.
I like the company too, they seem to care about their customers and products which is always something worth paying for.
Best – Sea Eagle Fishing ISUP
When it comes to fishing you can’t beat this paddle board. It’s still a very portable inflatable paddle board but it doesn’t look like it. I can’t believe it can fold up and fit into a bag.
The electric motor option is a cool accessory and something I never thought about adding to a paddle board.
You can turn it into a boat with the swivel seat and have a motor like the Newport Vessels Kayak Series (click to view on Amazon) attached.
Also if you feel like going out for a paddle, it will perform just like any other paddle board, and you’re going to have a hard time falling off due to the stability it has.
I think this is a very impressive product that has several awesome features. Fish better beware when you show up with this fishing paddle board.
What To Look For In An Inflatable Fishing Paddle Board
You don’t want to have to worry about falling off your board when casting or reeling something in. Width plays the biggest role when it comes to stability.
Some companies have put sponsons on their boards to help make their boards wider, more stable, and also thicker, but sponsons are not always necessary when buying a fishing board.
As long as the board is at least 11 feet and over 30 inches wide you are going to be ok.
If you are a taller or bigger person you are going to want to think about getting something wider than most. How stable you want a board to depends on you and what you can handle.
Fishing Rod Mounts
A lot of fishing paddle boards have accessory mounts already on the board.
If you already have an inflatable paddle board or you want more mounts Scotty makes a good one (click to view on Amazon) that is compatible with many of their other fishing accessories like the Scotty #230 Powerlock Rod Holder (click to view on Amazon), camera holders, anchor mounts, and much more.
Most of the time when fishing you are going to end up bringing lots of gear.
You want to think about how much you can fit on the board and still be comfortable.
A lot of times you can bring a cooler that can also be used as a seat, but if you’d rather have a real seat you should think about the weight limit, size of the deck, and D-link locations of the board you purchase.
Frequently Asked Questions About Inflatable Paddle Boards For Fishing
Why should I fish from an inflatable stand up paddle board (ISUP)?
Fishing from a stand-up paddle board can be a fun rewarding experience for a few reasons.
The first being that you get an advantage over other fishermen on things like kayaks and canoes because you can stand up and look into the water and see fish easier.
Normally you would only get this vantage point from a boat. Another reason to fish from a paddle board is you can glide into your favorite fishing hole totally silent, the fish won’t even know you are there.
A huge reason to even have an inflatable paddle board is they can be deflated, rolled up, and stored in a bag.
They fit in any size of the vehicle and can be taken long distances on foot.
They also don’t need to be registered and normally don’t need to go through boat checks either which saves time and money.
How do I rig my paddle board for fishing?
You can fish from any kind of paddle board but being able to stand while casting and having some way to put your pole down can be a problem.
Being able to balance on a narrow board is something you have to learn but you can add mounts for a fishing pole and add extra D-links to tie down the extra gear to your board easily.
You can buy D-links (click to view on Amazon) to glue to the board as well.
Can you stand and fish from a fishing paddle board?
Fishing paddle boards are wider than normal paddle boards and have flat tails to make them stable.
Most people should be able to stand and fish from a fishing paddle board but it may take a little practice if you don’t have good balance.
If you are tall it can be harder to balance on a board as well. For taller people or those with bad balance buy the widest fishing paddle board you can and you should be able to stand and fish from it.

How do I build a fishing paddle board for two?
Multiperson inflatable paddle boards have exploded in popularity this past year and now there are more options than ever.
If you need a fishing paddle board for two people all you need to do is rig a multiperson paddle board for fishing by adding fishing rod mounts (click to view on Amazon) and Fishing Rod Holders (click to view on Amazon).
